At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 "And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. 64 So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded. 65 And [through Our messengers] We revealed unto him this decree: "The last remnant of those [sinners] shall be wiped out in the morn." 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 Have fear of God and do not humiliate me". 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lot] said: "[Take instead] these daughters of mine, if you must do [whatever you intend to do]!" 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 and turned the land upside down, and rained down stones of baked clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood [i.e. the people of Madyan (Midian) to whom Prophet Shu'aib was sent by Allah), were also Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.). 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
