And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me). 62 They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing, 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals). 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 By your life! In their drunkenness they were truly blind. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 We turned the town upside-down and showered on them lumps of baked clay. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
