When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said, 'Nay, but we have brought thee that concerning which they were doubting. 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 He said, “These are my guests – do not dishonour me.” 68 Have fear of God and do not humiliate me". 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lot] said: "[Take instead] these daughters of mine, if you must do [whatever you intend to do]!" 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79
