And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin. 31 Nor come nigh to adultery: for it is a shameful (deed) and an evil, opening the road (to other evils). 32 Nor take life - which Allah has made sacred - except for just cause. And if anyone is slain wrongfully, we have given his heir authority (to demand qisas or to forgive): but let him not exceed bounds in the matter of taking life; for he is helped (by the Law). 33 Do not go near the orphans' property, except with the best of intentions, until they reach maturity. Keep your promises; you will be called to account for every promise which you have made! 34 And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with an even balance. That is the best [way] and best in result. 35 And pursue not that of which thou hast no knowledge; for every act of hearing, or of seeing or of (feeling in) the heart will be enquired into (on the Day of Reckoning). 36 And do not go about in the land exultingly, for you cannot cut through the earth nor reach the mountains in height. 37 All these are evil and odious to your Lord. 38 That is from what your Lord has revealed to you, [O Muhammad], of wisdom. And, [O mankind], do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity, lest you be thrown into Hell, blamed and banished. 39 Has your Lord chosen sons for you, and created daughters for Himself from among the angels? Indeed you utter a profound word! 40
