Al-Kahf 9 of 12
Recall how Moses said to his servant, "I shall not give up until I reach the place where both seas meet, even if it takes me years!" 60 But when they reached the point where the two rivers meet, they forgot their fish, and it took its way into the sea, as if through a tunnel. 61 When they had gone past, Moses said to his servant: "Give me my breakfast. I am exhausted from this journey." 62 He said: Didst thou see, when we took refuge on the rock, and I forgot the fish - and none but Satan caused me to forget to mention it - it took its way into the waters by a marvel. 63 Said Moosa, "This is exactly what we wanted"; so they came back retracing their steps. 64 and found one of Our servants, on whom We had bestowed grace from Ourselves and unto whom We had imparted knowledge [issuing] from Ourselves. 65 Moses said to him: "May I attend upon you that you may instruct me in the knowledge you have been taught of the right way?" 66 He replied, "You will not be able to bear with me patiently. 67 And how shouldst thou bear patiently that thou hast never encompassed in thy knowledge?' 68 He (Moses) said: 'If Allah wills, you shall find me patient, I shall not disobey your order' 69 He said, "Well then, if you would follow me, do not ask me about anything till I speak of it to you." 70

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
