They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story." 83 We established him in the land, and gave him the means to achieve all things. 84 He travelled on a certain road; 85 Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit. 86 He said: "As for him (a disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah) who does wrong, we shall punish him; and then he will be brought back unto his Lord; Who will punish him with a terrible torment (Hell). 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Then followed he (another) way, 89 [And then he marched eastwards] till, when he came to the rising of the sun he found that it was rising on a people for whom We had provided no coverings against it: 90 (He left them) as they were: We completely understood what was before him. 91 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 92 until he came between two mountains. He found beside them a people who could scarcely understand a word [of his language]. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He said, "What My Lord has given me is better [than any tribute]. Help me with a force of labourers and I will erect a barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me ingots of iron." Then after he had filled up the space between the two mountain-sides, he said: "(Light a fire) and ply bellows." When he had made it (red like) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour on it." 96 So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true. 98 ۞ And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly. 99 And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display - 100 Unto those whose eyes had been under a covering from My remembrance, nor had they been able to hear. 101
