They will ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I will give you an account of him." 83 We established him in the land, and gave him the means to achieve all things. 84 He journeyed on a way 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of murky water and near it he found some people. We said, "Dhu'l-Qarnayn! You can either punish them or else you can treat them with gentleness." 86 He said: "I shall punish whosoever is wicked. He will then be sent back to his Lord who will inflict on him a terrible punishment. 87 “And regarding one who believed and did good deeds – so his reward is goodness; and we shall soon give him an easy command.” 88 Then he followed another way, 89 to the East where he found the sun rising upon a people whom We had exposed to its rays. 90 thus [We had made them, and thus he left them; and We did encompass with Our knowledge all that he had in mind 91 He again pursued a purpose. 92 Until, when he reached [a pass] between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand [his] speech. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He said: better is that wherein my Lord hath established me; so help me with might, and I shall place between you and them a rampart. 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration. 97 Said [the King]: "This is a mercy from my Sustainer! Yet when the time appointed by my Sustainer shall come, He will make this [rampart] level with the ground: and my Sustainer's promise always comes true!" 98 ۞ And on that Day We shall let some of them surge like waves against others, and the Trumpet shall be blown. Then We shall gather them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall place hell, for all to see, before those who denied the truth 100 who have turned a blind eye to My reminder and a deaf ear to My warning. 101
