The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Those who, when they take by measure from mankind, exact the full, 2 But when they measure out to others or weigh out for them, they are deficient. 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 On a mighty Day. 5 The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 None denies it but the sinful transgressors. 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 A written record, 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 On thrones, watching. 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
