And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnain. Say: "I shall recite to you something of his story." 83 Say: "I will cite before you his commemoration." We gave him authority in the land and means of accomplishing every end. 84 So he followed a certain road 85 Until when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he perceived it setting in a miry spring, and he found beside it a nation. We said: Zul Qarnian! either chastise them or take in respect of them the way of kindness. 86 He said: "Whoever doth wrong, him shall we punish; then shall he be sent back to his Lord; and He will punish him with a punishment unheard-of (before). 87 But as for him who believes, and does righteousness, he shall receive as recompense the reward most fair, and we shall speak to him, of our command, easiness.' 88 Then he followed a way 89 until he reached the limit where the sun rises and he found it rising on a people whom We had provided no shelter from it. 90 Thus indeed it was. We had full knowledge of him. 91 He travelled 92 Until, when he reached between two mountains, he found, before (near) them (those two mountains), a people who scarcely understood a word. 93 They said: "O Dhu al-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are spreading corruption in this land. So shall we pay you taxes on the understanding that you will set up a barrier between us and them?" 94 He said: That wherein my Lord hath established me is better (than your tribute). Do but help me with strength (of men), I will set between you and them a bank. 95 Bring me ingots of iron!' Until, when he had made all level between the two cliffs, he said, 'Blow!' Until, when he had made it a fire, he said, 'Bring me, that I may pour molten brass on it.' 96 Thus (Gog and Magog) could neither climb over it nor dig a hole through (the rampart). 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass He will make it level with the ground, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ And on that Day [i.e. the Day Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog) will come out], We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another, and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. 99 We will fully expose the view of hell on that Day to the disbelievers, 100 Unto those whose eyes had been under a covering from My remembrance, nor had they been able to hear. 101
