They will ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I will give you an account of him." 83 Surely We established him in the land and granted him means of access to every thing. 84 One (such) way he followed, 85 Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a People: We said: "O Zul-qarnain! (thou hast authority,) either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness." 86 He replied, "I shall punish the unjust ones among them and then they will return to their Lord, who will punish them more sternly". 87 But as for him who believeth and doeth right, good will be his reward, and We shall speak unto him a mild command. 88 Then he followed another way, 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun. 90 So it is; and Our knowledge encompasses all that he possessed. 91 Then he set out on another expedition 92 Until when he arrived between the two mountains, he found beside them a people who well-nigh understood not a word. 93 They said: 'O Dhu'l-Qarnain, Gog and Magog are oppressing the land. May we pay you some tribute so that you could build a rampart between us and them?" 94 He answered: "Whatever my Lord has granted me is good enough. But help me with your labour and I will erect a rampart between you and them. 95 Bring me ingots of iron." Then after he had filled up the space between the two mountain-sides, he said: "(Light a fire) and ply bellows." When he had made it (red like) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour on it." 96 So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration. 97 Dhu l-Qarnayn said, "This barrier is a blessing from my Lord but when His promise comes to pass He will level it to the ground; His promise always comes true." 98 ۞ On that day We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another: the trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall place hell, for all to see, before those who denied the truth 100 The ones whose eyes were covered from My remembrance, and who could not bear to hear Truth. 101
