In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf- Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 "My Lord!" [said Zachariah], "How shall I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached such extreme old age?" 8 He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
