(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
