In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree? 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
