Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 when he called upon his Lord secretly 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 who shall be my inheritor and the inheritor of the House of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, well-pleasing.' 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
