He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
