And mention in the Book Mary when she withdrew from her people to an eastern place, 16 We sent to her Our Spirit (Gabriel) in the resemblance of a perfect human. 17 She said: I verily seek refuge with the Compassionate from thee if thou art God-fearing. 18 He said: I am only a messenger of your Lord: That I will give you a pure boy. 19 She said, "How can I have a son when no mortal has touched me nor am I an unchaste woman". 20 The angel said: "Thus shall it be. Your Lord says: 'It is easy for Me; and We shall do so in order to make him a Sign for mankind and a mercy from Us. This has been decreed.' " 21 ۞ Then she conceived him and withdrew with him to a far-off place. 22 Then the birth-pangs drave her to the trunk of a palm-tree; she said: would that I had died afore this and become forgotten, lost in oblivion! 23 He called from below to her: 'Do not sorrow, look, your Lord has provided a rivulet below you, 24 And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. 25 "So eat and drink and be glad, and if you see any human being, say: 'Verily! I have vowed a fast unto the Most Beneficent (Allah) so I shall not speak to any human being this day. 26 Then she brought the child to her folk carrying him; and they said, 'Mary, thou hast surely committed a monstrous thing! 27 O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a wicked man, nor was thy mother a loose woman!" 28 Thereupon she pointed to him. They exclaimed: "How can we talk to one who [as yet] is a little boy in the cradle?" 29 He Said: verily I am a bondman of Allah; He hath vouchsafed me the Book and made me a prophet. 30 And He hath made me blest wheresoever I may be, and enjoined on me the prayer and the poor-rate as long as I am alive. 31 And be dutiful to my mother. He has not made me haughty or rebellious. 32 Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive! 33 Such was the true story of Jesus, the son of Mary, about which they dispute bitterly. 34 It is not for Allah to take a son! Exaltations to Him! When He decrees a thing He only says: 'Be' and it is. 35 And lo! Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So serve Him. That is the right path. 36 But the parties have fallen into variance among themselves; then woe to those who disbelieve for the scene of a dreadful day. 37 How well they will hear and see on the day they come to Us! But the evildoers even today are in error manifest. 38 And warn them of the day of intense regret, when the matter shall have been decided; and they are (now) in negligence and they do not believe. 39 Indeed We shall inherit the earth and all that is on it, and only towards Us will they return. 40
