And when We said to the angels: 'Prostrate yourselves before Adam' they all prostrated themselves except iblis, who refused. 116 We said, "Adam, [Satan] is an enemy to you and to your wife. Let him not turn you both out of Paradise and thus make you come to grief. 117 “Indeed for you in heaven is that you may never be hungry nor be unclothed.” 118 and that thou shalt not thirst here or suffer from the heat of the sun." 119 Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?" 120 And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred. 121 Thereafter his Lord chose him, and turned again unto him, and He guided him. 122 He said: Get forth you two therefrom, all (of you), one of you (is) enemy to another. So there will surely come to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, he shall not go astray nor be unhappy; 123 But he who fails to heed My warning will have his means restricted; and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him blind." 124 He shall say, 'O my Lord, why hast thou raised me blind, and I was wont to see?' 125 God shall say, 'Even so it is. Our signs came unto thee, and thou didst forget them; and so today thou art forgotten.' 126 And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring. 127 Is it not a guidance to them, how many generations We destroyed before them in whose dwelling places they walk? Surely, in this there are signs for those of reason. 128
