The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Draws near for mankind their reckoning, while they turn away in heedlessness. 1 Whenever a new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in a playful manner, 2 With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [Prophet] except a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]?" 3 He said: "My Lord knows whatever is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He hears all and knows everything." 4 Nay, say they, (these are but) muddled dreams; nay, he hath but invented it; nay, he is but a poet. Let him bring us a portent even as those of old (who were Allah's messengers) were sent (with portents). 5 Not a township believed of those which We destroyed before them (though We sent them portents): would they then believe? 6 Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message. 7 We did not give them bodies that needed no food, nor were they to live forever. 8 Then We were true to the promise, We saved them together with those whom We willed, and destroyed the transgressors. 9 Indeed, We have sent down for you (O mankind) a Book, (the Quran) in which there is Dhikrukum, (your Reminder or an honour for you i.e. honour for the one who follows the teaching of the Quran and acts on its orders). Will you not then understand? 10
