The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
