But the leaders of his people who denied the truth and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, because We had granted them ease and plenty in their worldly life, said, "This is only a human being like yourselves, he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink, 33 So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be brought forth? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which ye are promised! 36 There is nought but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we are not going to be raised up. 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 The blast justly struck them and We reduced them to rubble. Away with such wicked people! 41 After them We brought another generation into existence. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 So they said: shall we believe in two human beings like unto us, while their nation are to us slaves? 47 Then they belied the twain; so they became of those who were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 and We made Mary's son, and his mother, to be a sign, and gave them refuge upon a height, where was a hollow and a spring: 50
