Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him, "Surely this man is a skilful sorcerer. 34 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic. So, what do you bid?" 35 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 36 who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." 37 So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day. 38 And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate 39 Haply we shall follow the sorcerers if it should be they are the victors.' 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 He said: "Yes, you will then become those near-stationed to me." 42 Musa said to them: Cast what you are going to cast. 43 So they threw down their ropes and their staves and exclaimed, “By the honour of Firaun, indeed victory is ours!” 44 Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake! 45 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said [Pharaoh]: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Verily, he must be your master who has taught you magic! But in time you shall come to know [my revenge]: most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and shall most certainly crucify you in great numbers, all together!" 49 They said: "No harm! Surely, to our Lord (Allah) we are to return; 50 We hope that our Lord will forgive us for our sins; we were not believers at first." 51
