Fir'awn said unto the chiefs around him: verily this is a magician knowing. 34 "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?" 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 "And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 37 So the sorcerers were assembled at a fixed time on a day appointed. 38 And it was said to the people, “Have you (also) gathered?” 39 so that we may follow the magicians, if they be the winners." 40 Then, when the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, 'Shall we indeed have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 41 He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will then be of those near [to me]." 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs, and said, "By Pharaoh's honour, we shall surely win." 44 Then Moses cast down his staff and it swallowed up their lying invention, 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 He (Pharaoh) said: 'You have believed him before I have given you permission. He is the chief of you who has taught you sorcery. But you shall know. I will surely cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and crucify you all.' 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers. 51
