[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician. 34 who wants to drive you out of your land by his magic. Tell us, what do you advise us?" 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 Who shall bring unto thee every knowing wizard. 37 So the sorcerers were gathered on the appointed day 38 And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble? 39 Belike we may follow the magicians if they are the winners? 40 "When the magicians came, they asked the Pharaoh, "Will there be any reward for us if we win?" 41 He said, 'Yes indeed; and you shall then be among the near-stationed.' 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 Thereupon they threw down their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall prevail." 44 Then Musa cast down his staff, and lo! it swallowed up that which they had devised. 45 Thereupon the magicians fell down in prostration, 46 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 47 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 48 (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one. 49 They said, "There is no harm. To our Lord we shall return. 50 We hope that our Lord will forgive us for our sins; we were not believers at first." 51
