And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 nor a loving friend. 101 "So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord - only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
