And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 Do not betray me 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 nor any loving friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
