Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
