The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
