The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
