The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
