Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
