'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
