(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
