The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and banana trees, 29 And shade extended 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
