Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
