The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20

God Almighty has spoken the truth.
