'Aad denied the messengers 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
