The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
