Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
