Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
