Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 Within gardens and springs 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
