The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
