The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
