The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
