Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
