(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
