Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
