Truly it is the revelation of the Lord of all Being, 192 Which the trustworthy Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] has brought down; 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 And verily it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment? 204 Just think: If We let them enjoy (the good things of life) for a few years more, 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust. 209 The satans did not bring down this (Clear Book), 210 they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task. 211 Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing. 212 (Muhammad), do not worship anything besides God lest you suffer the punishment. 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 and spread the wings of thy tenderness over all of the believers who may follow thee; 215 So if they do not obey you, then say, “Indeed I am unconcerned with what you do.” 216 And rely on the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you stand up. 218 And your movements among those who fall prostrate (along with you to Allah in the five compulsory congregational prayers). 219 He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every calumniator, sinner. 222 Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. 223 And as for the poets [they, too, are prone to deceive themselves: and so, only] those who are lost in grievous error would follow them. 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 And how they say that which they do not? 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
