Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
