The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. 3 Within three to nine years. The decision of the matter, before and after (these events) is only with Allah, (before the defeat of Romans by the Persians, and after, i.e. the defeat of the Persians by the Romans). And on that Day, the believers (i.e. Muslims) will rejoice (at the victory given by Allah to the Romans against the Persians), 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 (It is) a Promise of Allah (i.e. Allah will give victory to the Romans against the Persians), and Allah fails not in His Promise, but most of men know not. 6 People simply know the outward aspect of the worldly life but are utterly heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Have they never thought to themselves that Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between except with truth, and for a stated term? Yet most people disbelieve that they will ever meet their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the earth that they may observe what was the end of their predecessors who were far mightier and tilled the land and built upon it more than these have ever built? And Allah's Messengers came to them with Clear Signs. It was not Allah Who wronged them, but it is they who wronged themselves. 9 Then evil was the consequence to those who dealt in evil, because they denied the revelations of Allah and made a mock of them. 10
