In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ya Sin. 1 I call to witness the Qur'an, custodian of all laws, -- 2 Indeed you, [O Muhammad], are from among the messengers, 3 On a path that is straight, -- 4 (and this Qur'an) is a revelation from the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate 5 That thou mayest warn a people whose fathers were not warned; so they are negligent. 6 Indeed, the word [of God's condemnation] is bound to come true against most of them: for they will not believe. 7 We have put fetters around their necks which reach up to their chins so that they are standing with their heads upright, 8 And We have put a barrier before them, and a barrier behind them, and We have covered them up, so that they cannot see. 9 It is the same whether you have warned them or you have not warned them, they do not believe. 10 You can warn only him who follows the Admonition and fears the Merciful Lord without seeing Him. Give such a one good tidings of forgiveness and a generous reward. 11 Surely We give life to the dead, and We write down what they have sent before and their footprints, and We have recorded everything in a clear writing. 12

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
